In oriente l’esplosione sensuale della natura mi ha quasi sconvolto. Ho dipinto pertanto una serie di Giardini lussureggianti, che inquadravano angeli distanti nella loro fredda bellezza. Come nella poesia araba, ho lasciato alla rappresentazione della natura la declinazione delle bellezze dell’Amato, così come l’impaginazione decorativa, che riprende le preziose miniature moghul e persiane e suggerisce la strofe poetiche . Ho anche modellato una fontana invetriata che gettava vino, in omaggio all’ebbrezza mistica di Khayyam.     In the East the sensual explosion of nature quite stunned me and I have painted a series of luxuriant gardens which framed black and white angels so distant in their cold beauty. As in Arabic poetry I have left to nature the enumeration of the beauties of the Beloved, as well as to the decorative frames, that remind me of the precious Moghul and Persian miniatures and suggest the poetic strophes. I also have moulded a glazed fountain pouring wine as a tribute to Khayyam's mystical drunkenness.
